San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason had the opportunity for a big workload in a Week 18 regular season finale against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in a game in which the Niners were resting plenty of players with a first-round bye in the playoffs already locked up. However, Elijah Mitchell led the team with 14 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown, while Mason had only six rushing attempts and gained 36 yards on the ground. He added one catch for a 12-yard pickup. Mason wraps up his second regular season in the NFL with 40 rushing attempts for 206 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games, adding three receptions for 31 yards. The 24-year-old mostly played special teams in 2023 while serving as the No. 3 behind Christian McCaffrey and Mitchell, which will likely continue when the team resumes play in the Divisional Round in two weeks.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason could be worth a look for fantasy managers when the team hosts the Los Angeles Rams in a meaningless Sunday matchup. With starter Christian McCaffrey resting ahead of the playoffs and nursing a calf injury, San Francisco is expected to mostly lean on Elijah Mitchell, although the latter was cleared only Friday after battling an illness during the week. Also working in Mason's favor is that he's been more effective, gaining 5.0 yards per carry compared to Mitchell's 3.8. Adding to the chaos is the possibility that San Francisco activates a third running back from the practice squad. DFS players willing to risk a near-goose egg from Mason in hopes of a 50-50 split with Mitchell could find great value if the price is right. Those playing in Week 18 championships should view Mason as a risky RB3/flex option.

With the San Francisco 49ers potentially resting starters in a meaningless Week 18 game against the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Jordan Mason could see heavier workloads this Sunday. Darnold could get the start so that the team can rest Brock Purdy heading into the postseason while also giving Darnold an opportunity to showcase his stuff before he heads to free agency in 2024. Brandon Allen could also see reps under center. Running back Christian McCaffrey (calf) has already been ruled out, and given Elijah Mitchell's injury history, Mason could be in line for lead-back duties against the Rams, with fellow 2022 rookie Tyrion Davis-Price also seeing a heavier workload. The Niners would have to elevate Davis-Price from their practice squad to the 53-man active roster.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason (illness) is officially active for Week 17 versus the Washington Commanders. He had been listed as questionable after missing practice on Thursday and Friday. Nevertheless, he has recovered enough to play in the 49ers' penultimate regular-season game. Given his role as the No. 3 running back behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell, Mason can be avoided and left on waivers in all redraft leagues.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (concussion), running back Jordan Mason (illness) and tight end Ross Dwelley (ankle) were non-participants in practice on Thursday. Jennings suffered a concussion in Week 15, didn't play in the Week 16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and seems unlikely to return in Week 17 when the team faces the Washington Commanders. If Jennings misses a second straight game, rookie Ronnie Bell and Chris Conley could have bigger roles in the passing game, especially with Deebo Samuel also dealing with a sprained neck. Mason, meanwhile, should be fine to play by Sunday, but he'll likely be the RB3 for San Fran now that Elijah Mitchell (knee) appears ready to return in Week 17 as the backup for Christian McCaffrey.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason might spend a third consecutive game as Christian McCaffrey's primary backup on Monday night when the team hosts the Baltimore Ravens. Last week in Arizona with usual backup Elijah Mitchell (knee) sidelined, Mason handled five carries for 20 yards, which has been par for the course for all 49ers running backs not named McCaffrey. Fantasy managers may decide that they still want to carry Mason or Mitchell as a stash for championship week in case of a McCaffrey injury, but neither back will be startable on Christmas night.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason will reprise last week's role as Christian McCaffrey's backup this Sunday in Arizona against the Cardinals. With regular backup Elijah Mitchell (knee) ruled out in Week 14, Mason took four carries for 20 yards and a touchdown while only playing 11 percent of offensive snaps. The touchdown was fluky, as it came on the play immediately after McCaffrey ripped off a 72-yard run on the first play of the game. Mitchell is out again this week but banking on CMC coming out of the game at the goal line again is a losing proposition for fantasy managers. To be fair, Mason has looked good with his chances while averaging 5.4 yards per carry this year but without more touch volume, he's only useful as a stash. He should stay firmly on fantasy benches in Week 15.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason found paydirt on the second play of the game in the team's 28-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The second-year pro punched it in from three yards out after starter Christian McCaffrey was brought down near the goal line on a 72-yard scamper. Mason finished the day with 20 yards rushing on four carries and one reception on one target for six yards. McCaffrey was likely to be sidelined for only one or two plays to catch his breath after the long run, so fantasy players shouldn't go rushing to the waiver wire based on the touchdown. However, Mason may be worth a speculative add in case of a McCaffrey injury for those with roster flexibility because of the uncertainty surrounding Elijah Mitchell (knee).

Dec 9 1:30am CT

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason will be in line for snaps behind Christian McCaffrey on Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks with regular backup Elijah Mitchell (knee) expected to be sidelined. Though the 49ers may work Mason into the game plan -- he has shown some burst, averaging 5.5 yards per carry this year -- the safest bet is that he takes on as much work as Mitchell did, which is not fantasy-useful. Mitchell has only averaged 5.5 carries in the last four games and has gotten virtually no work in the passing game. Depending on future developments with Mitchell's knee and Mason's Week 14 outing, Mason could become the playoff stash to have in San Francisco, but he isn't startable versus Seattle.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) is officially active for Week 13 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. He had been listed as questionable after logging a limited practice on Friday. Ultimately, the 24-year-old will be active as the No. 3 running back behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell. He's not currently on the fantasy radar.

Dec 1 9:00pm CT

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) was able to get through a limited practice session on Friday. That is good news after Mason missed the first two days of practice this week. That being said, there's a chance that Mason is on the field for the Week 13 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Healthy or not, Mason hasn't been much of a factor in the offense lately. He's a distant third option behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell in the backfield. His absence won't mean much given the fact Mason hasn't played since Week 6.
